Nothing can be more fun, or more challenging than playing a mage in World of Warcraft. Starting out as virtual weaklings, they can easily become one of the more powerful character classes in the game. Following is a mage leveling guide for those who are up to the challenge.
When choosing to play a mage and looking for places to level solo, look for fields or where there are wide and open spaces. Since the mage makes for a weak tank, it helps to have space to run around in if you get into trouble. Being in an open space also allows you to choose your opponents without them sneaking up on you. Leveling mages in enclosed areas like dungeons will be more difficult and should be kept for higher levels or when in a party or group.
To kill monsters on your own as a mage is fairly quite simple, using mostly missile spells. Usually you can begin your attack by using frost bolt on a monster you wish to kill. The frost bolt will slow it down and while it is slowed down follow through quickly by casting a fireball. If it is still coming at you, step back a few steps and cast the combination again and keep doing so until it stops moving, that is, it is dead.
Do always keep an eye on your mana level. This is important for without mana you cannot cast any spells. If you wish do purchase some mana potions to replenish it quickly while in battle. All throughout your levelling and grinding practice the frost bolt, fireball and arcane missile spam. Do this kind of simplified attack all the way to level 25.
Upon reaching level 25 you may need to make some friends to level. Find one or two warriors to act as tanks and you can have the fun part of dealing damage. Should you really want to level up fast train spells that do AOE damage so you can hit more for more experience.
Doing AOE type damage relies heavily on the Frost spells. Pull in a mob with Improved Blizzard and once they get close use Frost Nova. Back up a bit and then use Improved Blizzard again.
